Citizens' Police Academy to be held begining February 20th.

The Denville Township Police Department will be conducting our second Citizens’ Police Academy beginning on Tuesday, February 20th, 2018.  The Academy will take place over the course of ten weeks, meeting once a week on Tuesday nights from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the Community Room at the Denville Township Municipal Building, unless otherwise noted.

The purpose of the Citizens’ Police Academy is to give the public a working knowledge and understanding of the operations of our police department and of law enforcement in general, to include our goals and objectives.   Areas of instruction will cover various topics routinely addressed by law enforcement, to include criminal and constitutional law relating to arrest, search and seizure, patrol techniques, drug trends and the use of force.  Classes will be formulated to incorporate an interactive format, providing participants with a “hands-on” experience whenever practical.  It is our intention that the graduates of the Citizens’ Police Academy will gain an awareness and appreciation of the services provided by our police department and will become good will ambassadors for the law enforcement community as a whole.

This course will be limited to sixteen qualified applicants.  Applicants must be a Denville Township resident eighteen years of age or older without a criminal record.  In addition, all applicants are subject to a background check before being accepted to the program.

The deadline to submit applications is Friday, February 2nd, 2018.  Application packets are now available at Police Headquarters and can be picked up from the Police Dispatcher or downloaded by clicking here.  For more information on this program, please contact Lt. Jeff Tucker at 973-627-4900 x 334 or by e-mail at jtucker@denvillepolice.org.
