2024 Citizens Police Academy Information and Application

The Denville Township Police Department is having our fifth Citizens Police Academy beginning on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. The Academy will take place over the course of ten weeks, meeting once a week on Tuesday nights from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the Community Room at the Denville Township Municipal Building.

The purpose of the Citizens Police Academy is to give the public a working knowledge and understanding of the operations of our police department and of law enforcement. Areas of instruction will cover various topics routinely addressed by law enforcement, to include: criminal and constitutional law relating to arrest, search and seizure; patrol techniques; drug trends; and use of force, which will include running through scenarios in a firearms training simulator. Classes will incorporate an interactive format, providing participants with a "hands-on" experience. The graduates of the Citizens Police Academy will gain an awareness of the services provided by our police department and with the goal of becoming ambassadors for the law enforcement community as a whole.

This course is limited to fifteen qualified applicants. Applicants must be Denville Township residents or non-residents who work or own a business in Denville (note: preference will be given to Denville residents), must be eighteen years of age or older, and cannot have a criminal record.

The application deadline is Friday, January 26, 2024. Application packets are now available for pick up at Police Headquarters from the Police Dispatcher or downloaded from our website.
